Stormtracker 16 Weather Center Off to one side of the Newsroom is the Stormtracker 16 Weather Center. Meteorologists in the Stormtracker 16 Weather Center prepare forecasts for all Newswatch 16 newscasts. All weathercasters at WNEP-TV are trained Meteorologists who make their own forecasts. To do this, they use computer information from the National Weather Service, satellite pictures, and radar images including our own Stormtracker 16 Realtime Doppler Radar. The Stormtracker 16 Realtime Doppler Radar is the only LIVE Doppler Radar in the area, giving our Meteorologists and you the most accurate and up-to-date information on the strength and location of storms. Our Realtime Doppler Radar can see large storms as far as 200 miles away. To see storms beyond those 200 miles we rely on National Weather Service Doppler Radars known on WNEP-TV as Doppler II. Once the forecast is made, the Meteorologist will use two weather graphics computers to create the maps and animations you see during the Stormtracker 16 forecast. One of these animations is FutureRadar which is the computers forecast of where rain and snow will be falling in the future. There is also a giant television set in the Stormtracker 16 Weather Center. Meteorologists use this TV during severe weather to present weather information directly from the Weather Center. But most of the time the forecast is presented from The Backyard. | Table of Contents | Next --> | |
