The Main Studio Most of the newscasts on WNEP-TV 16 The News Station are done from the Main News Studio. This view is similar to what you see on TV each night. Notice the large green walls in the back. These are ChromaKey walls just like the one in The Backyard. They are special-effect walls that allow us to show a different background for each news story we tell. Many of these backgrounds have animations or video in them, which would be difficult to show without the ChromaKey walls. These backgrounds are created by our Graphic Artists. Sometimes the Anchors will talk to a Reporter or Meteorologist using these ChromaKey walls. This takes some practice because, while you can see the Reporter or Meteorologist at home, all the Anchor sees is a green wall. This is what the rest of the studio looks like from the news set. There are plenty of lights, TV sets, and cameras. Notice the cameras have TelePrompTers mounted on them. After the Producer types the script for the newscast into the computer, the script appears on these TelePrompTers. The Anchors can read the news from the TelePrompTers while looking directly at the camera. You may have noticed that most Anchors also keep a copy of the script on paper. The paper acts as back-up to the TelePrompTer, and it allows the Anchors to read ahead if they want to.
