Nolan's Week in Review

Monday, August 28  
The first day back to school was marred in Schuylkill County. Vandals left their mark at Minersville Area High School. Plaster was splattered across the entrance, graffiti was left on the sidewalks, and two flags were stolen, according to police. Police in Cass Township were looking for those vandals.

Tuesday, August 29  
A brutal murder of an 18-year-old restaurant worker Kristy Grega in Dunmore on Sunday continued to bring friends and family to the crime scene. On Tuesday visitors placed flowers and an angel in front of the closed Wendy's Restaurant on the O’Neil Highway. Later in the week, police would make an arrest in the fatal attack on the student from Throop, who would have been a freshman at Marywood University this year.

Wednesday, August 30  
Drivers in Williamsport learned some good news: the aging Market Street Bridge over the Susquehanna River will be replaced. PennDOT said it is planning to build a new span right next to this one allowing direct access to Interstate 180. The work in Williamsport could start three years from now.

Thursday, August 31  
Police Luzerne County want to know who would steal the bleachers from a little league field. The aluminum seats were taken at the Edwardsville/Larksville little league field off Church Street in Larksville. Scrap dealers were contacted to be on the lookout for five sections of the bleacher seats

Friday, September 1  
In Williamsport the heated YWCA pool was in danger of closing down because no one was using it, and it was too expensive to keep open. Then people started using it so they wouldn’t lose it: especially seniors. Friday the city coughed up a grant of 80 thousand dollars to make the pool wheelchair accessible.
